Encinitas residents may be pleased to know that a new culinary experience has joined the local food landscape. Residents may want to check out the new dining adventure known as The Patio on 101, located at 345 S Coast Highway 101. A food reporter for The Coast News Group wrote an article about his experience at this establishment. The brightly lit and expansive “Patio” is part of a restaurant group that has opened 2 other locations of the exciting concept, in addition to the Encinitas space, throughout the San Diego area. In his article, Boylan says that The Patio maintains an iconic bar known as “Himmelberg’s”, named after the CEO’s late friend, Joey Himmelberg, and you can order the “Himmel Brew” by Mission Brewery in honor of the man himself. Other craft beers pay equal homage to the surrounding geography, as does the local pottery and art culled from all over Encinitas that you find decorating the walls of the joint. The attention to what is intimately local characterizes much of the Patio’s passion for what is fresh and innovative but decidedly Californian. The menu honors the diversity of the West Coast with a fine selection of Vietnamese and Chinese “Bao Buns”, steamed like bread rolls stuffed with a variety of fillings including Bulgogi (Korean marinated beef) and Shrimp, Pork Belly or Baked Tofu. All are dressed with the requisite pickled vegetables and cabbage. Dinners are elevated and broader in cultural references. The menu at Patio is expansive and includes a variety of sandwiches, salads, burgers and more. There are special brunch options too with bottomless mimosas.
